Is the amount of branded searches a potential ranking factor? For instance, my brand name is Yellow Popsicle Inc. If people search for it frequently does it help the rest of my SEO?

As far as I understand what various Google engineers have said, brand search, and searches that include brand terms, are 'quality signals'. There are times when those quality signals may be a factor in various calculations, including ranking, and times when they won't. They absolutely can affect crawl priority and 'importance' calculations, both of which can help rankings (since you can't rank for anything Google hasn't indexed or crawled).
