What tool would be best to uncover duplicate content issues on your own site? I've got a client with various local pages which (I think) are too similar to the main money page.
Any suggestions?

Search Console will show you pages not indexed because of duplicate content. Use Google’s tool to show the truth.
Google doesn't want to waste resources indexing the same pages that basically say the same thing so they will drop the copies.
But it’s an easy fix. Just edit the Title, headers, and about half the content and you will be fine!

Uncovering Duplicate Content & Fixing Local Pages:
You're right to be concerned about duplicate content, especially for local pages similar to your client's main money page. Here are two excellent tools to identify and address the issue:
1. Free Option: Google Search Console
-
- Identify Duplicates: While it doesn't directly highlight duplicate content, Google Search Console can be a helpful starting point. Look for pages with very similar titles and meta descriptions across your local pages and the main money page.
2. Paid Option (Recommended for Scalability): Copyscape
-
- In-Depth Analysis: Copyscape offers a more comprehensive analysis of potential duplicate content. It compares your webpages to identify similar content across your site and even the wider web. This is ideal for checking multiple local pages.
Addressing Local Page Similarity:
Here's how to approach the local page similarity issue:
-
- Unique Content for Each Location: Each local page should have unique content that highlights the specific services offered and the area it serves. This could include local contact information, customer testimonials, or details about local events.
-
- Target Local Keywords: Optimize each local page with relevant keywords that target specific locations. This helps ensure those pages show up in search results for people in those areas.
-
- Internal Linking: Create a strong internal linking structure where relevant local pages link back to the main money page. This demonstrates the relationship between the pages and avoids duplicate content penalties.
Additional Tips:
-
- Use Google My Business: Ensure your client's business is properly listed on Google My Business for each location. This helps improve local search visibility.
-
- Monitor Performance: After making changes, track the performance of your local pages in Google Search Console to see if they're attracting more relevant traffic.
By using these tools and strategies, you can effectively identify and address duplicate content issues on your client's website. This will help ensure their local pages are optimized for search engines and provide valuable information to potential customers in each area.
