what does above the fold mean on a website?

It came from back in the newspaper days and refers to where it folded, everything on the front before the fold.  However, on a website, it means before having to scroll so everything you see when the website first loads.

It’s an old newspaper term that’s now used for websites. It’s where you want to place the most important info or calls to action since it grabs attention right away.
