Link building - I hate it. I'm an on-page, tech SEO person so I always outsource my link building. But, now with the recent changes going on with Google, I'm thinking I need to step up my link building game. I'd love to hear your thoughts on link building. Do you outsource or do it yourself and why?
i think you should do link building by yourself. Outsource link building task is costly and could out your online reputation at the sake. If you really want to outsource the link building task, then you should look each link with the critical eyeball.
Outsourcing link building can be a viable option if you prefer to focus on your core skills, such as on-page optimization and technical SEO. Hiring professionals or agencies experienced in link building can save you time and effort, as they typically have established networks and strategies to acquire high-quality backlinks. I do it with linkbuilder.
Just like my story. I also do not like to do much of link building. I focus on content mainly and try to make it rank. Although I do build basic links and all that helps. And recently I realized that you need to have some good link profile that builds your platform to rank your pages. But keywords, content and optimization builds your base. Without these 3 you cannot achieve much from link building. These 3 provide the direction in which you want to go while links provide the necessary push. You can always start building some basic links and if you feel that you reached your limit and it is not doing enough for your website then go for outsourcing.
I totally get where you're coming from! I used to outsource too, but Google's updates have me rethinking. Now I'm diving into DIY link building. It's about control and quality for me. Plus, it's a learning curve that's paying off in understanding my site better. What about you?

DIY backlinks are the best approach. However, we do outsource "No Follow" and foundational links.
@nateolsen what kind of foundational links do you start with?
The basics such as Google Maps, Bing Maps, Apple Maps, Social Media, BBB, and Chamber of Commerce. There are plenty of others but this should give you the right idea.
Link building is like getting votes for your website.
In the world of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), search engines consider websites with more high-quality links to be more trustworthy and relevant. So, the more high-quality links you have pointing to your website, the higher you're likely to rank in search results.
Imagine two bakeries competing for customers:
-
- Bakery A: Has a delicious cake, but no one knows about it.
-
- Bakery B: Has a good cake, and everyone is talking about it because it's been mentioned in food blogs and magazines (links).
Guess which bakery gets more customers?
That's the power of link building! It helps people discover your website and tells search engines that your content is valuable.
Here's the catch:
Not all links are created equal. You want high-quality links from relevant websites in your niche. Getting low-quality links can actually hurt your SEO.
Here are some ways to get high-quality links:
-
- Create amazing content: People will naturally want to link to your content if it's informative, helpful, or interesting.
-
- Guest blogging: Write guest posts for other websites in your niche and include a link back to your website.
-
- Broken link building: Find broken links on relevant websites and offer your content as a replacement.
Link building takes time and effort, but it's a crucial part of any SEO strategy. By focusing on creating high-quality content and building relationships with other websites, you can attract valuable links and improve your website's ranking in search results.
