I have a client who is based in Australia but wants to target business in the US. They don't have a physical address in the US. I was planning to set their Google Business Profile to service USA though that seems incredibly broad (they sell software and their clients are all over the show). Would having a US phone number on the website do anything from an SEO point of view?
My thought was that from a UX point of view it might be more attractive to US clients, than having an Australian number.
Is there any SEO benefit to having a US number?

1. Selling software online is a geo-independent request linked by language (not by country)
2. The presence of a phone number can, in addition to UX, play as an E-A-T factor, so it will not be superfluous
3. Proofread the articles - your English should sound American (not Australian, and even more so - not British)
4. .com is a must in this case
5. Also a good idea to get a host located in the USA or use a CDN based in the USA
